Anatomical structure:
The anal canal is about 4cm long, starting from the anal sphincter to the anal verge.
The inner wall of the anal canal has columnar epithelium and goblet cells, which secrete mucus for lubrication
The upper part of the anal canal has island-like structures, called tubular glands and Morgagni protuberances.
The lower part of the anal canal has bar-like folds, forming a vulnerable area of the anal canal.
Physiological function:
The anal sphincter (internal and external sphincters) controls the closure and opening of the anus.
The anorectal angle helps to store and discharge feces
The anal canal mucosa is sensitive and can sense defecation stimulation and regulate defecation reflexes.

Special properties:
The anatomy is narrow and vulnerable to external damage and infection.
The mucosa is rich in nerve endings and sensitive to pain.
